Famous & Infamous Births & Deaths 6th April

Birth wise, artist/architect Rafaello Sanzio da Urbino, who was ahead of the game by being known by one name – Raphael, designed his entrance to the world in 1483. Living Norwegian of the day is poet and journalist Aasmund Olavsson Vinje who took a few years after 1818 to come up with the saying, ‘Det er saa viktig aa kosa seg!’, (and for those of you who don’t speak the lingo, it (hopefully) means’ ‘It is so important to enjoy oneself!’. Aeroplane manufacturer Anton Herman ‘Gerard’ Fokker was a little Fokker after 1890. Keeping with the aviation theme, founder of the Douglas Aircraft Company, (now part of McDonnell Douglas Corporation), Donald Wills Douglas Jr. didn’t lag behind in 1892. Inventor of the police’s favourite piece of equipment, (after battering rams, truncheons, guns and not forgetting pepper spray), the taser gun, John ‘Jack’ Higson Cover Jr. stunned his parents in 1920. Northern Ireland firebrand and tub thumper Ian Richard Kyle Paisley started making a noise in 1926. Five timed married arm waver and favourite of comedians Morecombe & Wise, André Previn must have had an andante birth in 1929. Diminutive magician with the wig who died last month, Newton Edward Daniels, but went by the name Paul Daniels, used classic force in 1938. Musician/composer with Tangerine Dream, Christopher Franke had his dream encore in 1953. Sometime fairly amusing political satirist Roderick Keith Ogilvy ‘Rory’ Bremner started making some people (in his family) smile in 1961. Current Presidenti of Ecuador Rafael Vicente Correa Delgado began an alliance with his mum from 1963. Singer Frank Black has been hanging onto his ego since 1965. Mincing maestro Louie Spence hopefully won’t get too much spit on his birthday cake when he blows out his 47 candles later tonight. Un-amusing shouting comedian Gina Yashere found an open spot in 1974.

As for deaths, King Richard I of England aka Richard the Lionheart was even more terse after 1199. Having mentioned Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, above, here he is again given he chose to rollover in 1520. Dead Norwegian of the day goes to mathematician Niels Henrik Abel ran out of fingers and toes to count how old he was in 1829. Co-founder of Australian airline Qantas, Sir Wilmot Hudson Fysh had the chocks put on his life in 1974. Irish actress Greer Garson had her Goodbye, Mr Chips moment in 1996. Country, (yawn), singer Virginia Wynette Pugh or Tammy Wynette only got to lie by her man from 1998. Grace Kelly’s other half and ruler of Monaco for neigh on 56 years, Rainier III Prince of Monaco also cashed his chips in back in 2005. Actor and far left supporter, Corin Redgrave stopped reading The Morning Star in 2010. Finally, former child actor who’s career spanned almost 90(!) years, Joseph Yule Jr. (Mickey Rooney to his fan), finally gave up the comebacks in 2014.
